CONSTANTINOPLE

Constantinople with the Bosporus in the background. The view shows the three chief mosques of the city. The largest is Agia Sofia, formerly the Church of St. Sophia, which was begun in 532 A.D. by the Emperor Justinian. The city occupies a most important strategic position at the meeting of two continents, Europe and Asia.
