Xover has been part of enWS since 2008, and has been very active and involved here in recent months. They have a strong understanding of how we operate here; their work edits are consistently high quality; their contributions to discussions are insightful and helpful. Our project would benefit greatly from having Xover among our admin team. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 15:11, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the vote of confidence, and I accept the nomination. Happy to help where I can. --Xover (talk) 15:44, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

  11. Keep here, and away from wikipedia's "no brainers", per the undocumented 'busy hands' policy!? Cygnis insignis 05:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

*{{re|Jimbo Wales}} Note that while I agree there is no real urgency (important, yes, but not that urgent) regarding the inciting issue, and I would even tentatively agree that Fram would also probably agree with that; the crisis that the original issue has engendered is urgent. The WMF must start to communicate, fast, and not stop doing so until the crisis is resolved. (do I have to specify that it must do so with a humann voice, and not more corporate-speak?) Because if they let this go too long then—regardless of whether it is merited or constructive—it seems overwhelmingly likely that the community or individual community members will take actions that will make it exceedingly difficult to walk this back from the brink. Completely independently of who is right or wrong, if we cross that river it may be impossible for the project to recover from the fallout, and it may well escalate to a movement-wide crisis. Noon Pacific may actually be the literal deadline, no matter whether that is reasonable or not. --Xover (talk) 15:55, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

2021-10 Interface-admin nomination

Self "nomination" to add the Interface Admin permission to my account (so I don't have to keep bugging Inductiveload for every little .js and .css change that needs to be made). I have 2FA enabled and promise to try not breaking anything. Much. Too often. :)

For reference, we don't really have a formal policy for dealing with the IA permission, so based on practice it is assigned ad hoc at need and then rolled into the regular admin confirmations. --Xover (talk) 07:38, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

@Inductiveload, @Languageseeker, @PseudoSkull: - since you have participated in the discussion on this topic at the Administrator's Noticeboard, I thought you might want to participate here as well. BD2412 T 02:12, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Support I have only a very vague idea of what interface administrator can or cannot do, so my support is meant mainly as an expression of general trust in the applicant. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 19:23, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
tl;dr they can edit site-wide JS and CSS, most importantly the general site CSS, mobile CSS, export CSS, and gadgets. Normal users can edit only TemplateStyles CSS (which is a subset called "sanitized CSS") and JS and CSS in their own user areas. There's a separate requirement because that access is a security risk of sorts, as an un-trusted user could serve things that might de-anonymise users or otherwise violate the WMF Privacy Policies, run things like cryptominers and maybe even serve malware via browser vulnerabilities. So it's expected (but currently taken on faith for technical reason, AIUI) that Interface Admins are using more secure login methods. Inductiveloadtalk/contribs 20:27, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
